Weekly Drop-in Classes

Weekly Drop-in Classes

Our weekly meditation drop-in classes are taught by qualified Buddhist teachers, and are very easy to understand and apply to our daily lives. The classes are suitable for both beginners and more advanced practitioners, and emphasize how to use meditation and subsequent practices amidst the busyness of modern, daily life. The union of Buddha’s teachings within our daily life is the essence of Kadampa Buddhism.

All of our classes are currently being live streamed from Kadampa Meditation Centre Australia.

Anger Management with Gen Dornying (28 June – 26 July)

According to Buddhism of all our negative minds, anger is the most destructive. Yet many believe anger is a force for change, not understanding the destruction it actually causes.

In this course, we’ll learn to become a scientist of our own mind, seeing which states make us peaceful and strong and which cause emotional problems and damage relationships.

We will explore the following and more:

  • Can you fight for what you believe in without anger
  • Does anger create change or does it stifle it?
  • Is anger a natural part of being human?
  • Is anger ever justified?

We’ll also learn how meditation can help to reduce our reliance on anger and eventually eradicate it from our minds altogether.

The Illusion of Loneliness with Gen Dornying (16 Aug – 6 Sep)

There’s an enormous difference between being alone and feeling lonely. Perhaps there’s been times in your life when you’ve felt lonely even while wrapped in someone’s arms. At other times maybe you’ve felt close and connected to loved ones while enjoying a cup of tea quietly and happily by yourself.

By meditating on love and the true nature of reality, we come to realize just how interconnected we all are. On this course dissolve away the thoughts that make us feel isolated and learn to wake up from the illusion of loneliness and separation.

This contemporary Buddhist handbook gives our life meaning and direction. It presents practical methods for overcoming problems such as depression and anxiety and explains how to be happy all the time by developing and maintaining a peaceful mind.

Starting August 24, both in-person and streamed live on-line from our new premises in Melbourne’s CBD, Buddhist Monk Gen Dornying will teach this special text. The course will run every Tuesday, and although Gen Dornying will transmit and give commentary to the whole book, you can drop in any week.

The Art of Self-Confidence with Daisy McClelland (weekly)

“Get ready to say hello to that new face in the mirror.”

False! Contrary to popular wisdom on the internet, self-confidence is not to be found by talking to yourself in the mirror.

Self-confidence is an inner strength that develops from how you live your life. If you live your life concerned with the welfare of others, you feel better about yourself, and naturally feel more confident.

At our next series of weekday meditation classes, learn what true self-confidence is, how to develop it, and what to do when it wanes.

Inner Peace in a Changing World with Daisy McClelland (18 Aug – 1 Sep)

The world is a constantly changing place and our emotions often change with it, our happiness can be as volatile as the price of cryptocurrencies! We are now faced with an important choice: we continue to oscillate between feelings of excitement and despondency, or we learn to peg our happiness to something we can control.

The fundamental truth of Buddha’s teachings is that there is only one thing we can control, our own inner response to life’s ever-changing circumstances.

The greatest gift we will ever give ourself is the ability to be at peace, regardless of what happens. On this course you will learn special techniques for transforming all the experiences of daily life into lasting happiness. Mastering these techniques will give you complete control over the quality of your life.

A Complete Guide to Meditation with Natalie Eichelmann (weekly)

Without inner peace there is no real happiness at all. Problems, suffering and unhappiness do not exist outside the mind; they are feelings and thus part of our mind. Therefore, it is only by controlling our mind that we can permanently stop our problems and make ourself and others truly happy.

Our Thursday night drop-in course, a complete guide to meditation, will present twenty-one Buddhist meditation practices, actual methods to control your mind and experience lasting inner peace. It will also teach on how to prepare for meditation and transform everyday life into a spiritual path.

The course is based on the New Meditation Handbook by Geshe Kelsang Gyatso. This extremely practical guide is an indispensable handbook for those seeking happiness and meaning in their lives.

Take some time out every Thursday evening to kick start your meditation practice.
